Natural rubber is physically the strongest elastomer in general use. It has extremely low compression set, high tensile strength, very high elongation and high resistance to abrasion.
What it cannot do is survive weather. UV, ozone and oil all attack it, so it belongs indoors, in dynamic mechanical applications, or under a protective compound.
